Challenge Accepted: Prayer

DAY 5 OF 7

What do we do when we pray for something and don’t get what we want? Did God not hear us? Did He not care? Why should we even pray if God’s going to do what He wants anyway? This is one of the toughest faith-issues to work through, because it’s loaded with emotions and disappointment. However, Jesus did not shy away from this issue in His teaching, and He gives us some insight into the meaning behind these situations. Could it be that prayer isn’t about forcing God’s hand to our will, but conforming our hearts to His? God is a loving Father and loves to give us good gifts, but any good parent knows that giving your kids everything they ever ask for is not actually good for them. But the time spent talking with God, and the persistence with which we pursue that is fertile soil for our faith and understanding of God to grow.

About this Plan

Challenge Accepted: Prayer

Why and how should we pray? The Bible is packed full of teachings and examples that deal with all these questions. This week-long reading plan will cover some of the clearest teachings and greatest recorded prayers to ground and enrich our personal prayer lives in the truth of Scripture. Pair these scriptures with a brief prayer afterwards, and watch the difference it makes in your relationship with Jesus.
