This truth is simple, yet profound. When Jesus is reigning, when He is on the throne, it is a good thing. All that is good, noble and excellent in life comes from the glory and goodness of God, not from any other source. If Jesus reigns, the only appropriate response is JOY. Psalms 98 again provides the foundation for these thoughts, as you can read in the first three verses (NIV):

“Sing to the LORD a new song,

for He has done marvelous things;

His right hand and His holy arm

have worked salvation for Him.

The LORD has made His salvation known

and revealed His righteousness to the nations.

He has remembered His love

and His faithfulness to the house of Israel;

all the ends of the earth have seen

the salvation of our God.”

God has done marvelous things. Yes, it’s true that there is much darkness, sadness and tragedy in our world, but because of what Christ has done on the cross for us, we have hope. We have hope because He reigns. Regardless of how our circumstances may appear, this one fact remains – the Savior reigns! God is faithful to His promises.

When things are going well we can have joy. But more importantly, when things don’t seem to go our way, it’s a blessing to sing, even with tears:

“The Savior reigns

You have risen from the grave alive

Death has lost its power over us

We have been set free!”
