Love’s Saving Power 

From the first day you wore the badge on your chest, there’s one question people always seem to ask: “Why did you become a law enforcement officer?” If you ask a hundred officers, you will likely get a hundred different answers, but the two you will hear often is, “I wanted to help people,” or “I wanted to serve.” The root of why we serve is simple—love. Love is the greatest motivating factor behind every law enforcement officer. It is the greatest force moving beat cops up and down the streets pulling door handles on the midnight shift, or the drug enforcement officer pulling over cars on the interstate. 

Love is a powerful force indeed. In this case, it is a force for good. Love is patient, and it is kind. You aren’t expected to be babysitters or nursery-school workers, but it is possible to let love be the guiding force behind all you do as law enforcement professionals. Today, in all your efforts, let your center guide be the love of Jesus, loving others as He loved us first. When we do this through our examples, our lives have the power to change others, and one life can change a community, a state, and even a nation.

Heavenly Father, remind me of the greatest power known to humanity—love—when I am at my worst. Amen.
