A Chosen Family

Welcome back to “The Old Testament in 10 Days.” We are exploring the overarching story of the Old Testament while introducing you to ministry partners who are here to help you understand and love the Bible. Last time, our friends at BibleProject showed us how the whole story of the Bible starts in the Garden of Eden and how God created humanity in his image to bring beauty and order to the world. But we chose a disordered and broken life. Today, we will see how God will fix what is broken.

To help us, we want to introduce you to another partner — Spoken Gospel. Spoken Gospel is on a mission to help you read the Bible the way Jesus taught us to read it — seeing how every single part of it is about him. In the video you’re about to see, Spoken Gospel will explain how God’s first family in the Garden broke his plan to fill the whole earth with his image. But you will also see how, through the chosen family of Abraham, God would raise up a new family who would fulfill that purpose and bless the whole world. God promised to give this family a new land, like the Garden of Eden, from which they could be fruitful and multiply. But, like all humanity, this family was not perfect and could not fully represent God. Therefore, God’s plan for filling the whole earth with the image of his family would ultimately happen in Jesus and all who follow him. Watch this.

As Spoken Gospel’s explanation of the Book of Genesis showed us, God would accomplish his plan to recreate the world through a family. The chosen family of Abraham would inherit a new land like the Garden of Eden, where they could be fruitful and multiply, as Adam and Eve were meant to, and bring God’s image and beauty to all nations. God’s heart for the world is to fill it with his family and presence.
