Introduction - What is Destiny?

In recent years, we’ve heard much talk about destiny. Statements such as “Walk in your destiny” and “You have a destiny” have inundated our world.

Amid all this talk, I’ve thought to myself, I hear what youre saying, but can someone please explain exactly what destiny is and how it affects my life? Have you ever felt like this, too? As I began to search for answers, my quest started with a visit to my dictionary.

Tucked away within the pages of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, I found the definition of destiny sandwiched between destine and destitute. The first definition reads:

  1. something to which a person or thing is destined

Okay, I said to myself as I wrapped my brain around what I had just read. I knew immediately that if I was going to make sense of this word, I needed to dig deeper.

So, I read the second definition of destiny provided by my friends at Merriam-Webster:

(2) the point or place to which something or someone is directed; the purpose to which something is created or designed

“All right!” Now, I was starting to feel something! I knew at this moment that the Holy Spirit wanted to speak. Without a doubt, I felt that destiny was a part of God’s plan for my life. I then asked the golden question: “Holy Spirit, what is destiny?”

He spoke! This is what I heard. Are you ready for it?

“Destiny is a God-appointed person, going to a God-appointed place, at a God-appointed time, for a God-appointed purpose.”

“Yes!” At this point, my spirit bore witness to what I heard. I felt completely energized as I meditated on this newfound definition delivered straight from the throne room of heaven!

I now understand destiny in a whole new light. I am a Woman of Destiny! You are a Woman of Destiny, too! We have been appointed by God.

You are a Woman of Destiny, no matter the circumstance of your birth or the lie the devil has told you regarding your life: “You weren’t planned,” “You were an accident,” “Your life doesn’t matter,” or “God would never use you.” The list goes on and on.

You, however, must believe this truth: God, in His sovereignty, designed you on purpose and for His purpose. You are a Woman of Destiny. “You are a God-appointed person, going to a God-appointed place, at a God-appointed time, for a God-appointed purpose.” You were designed with God-intentions in mind! Check out today’s scripture reading to shed more light on this truth.
