Celebrating Your Baptism

DAY 29 OF 30

Today, we read 3 John. This short letter was written to a disciple named Gaius, but it applies to each of us because John encourages us to follow good examples. In 1 John, we are told to challenge the spirits against God’s word. In 2 John, we are told to beware of false teachers who mean to lead us away from God. 3 John tells us to follow good examples. Gaius is praised for his hospitality, but Diotrephes does not welcome them. Gaius was faithful. Diotrephes was self-important and gossiping. Gaius was told to send people on their way in a way that honors God so that they may work together for the truth. Diotrephes stops those who want to welcome other believers and even kicks them out of the church. We have examples to follow, such as people above us in authority or ahead of us in life. They can provide a good or bad example. 1 John 3:11 says, “Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.” We should find someone ahead of us in their walk with Jesus and ask them to mentor us. We should also find someone behind us in their walk with Jesus and ask them how we can help them. Even if you’re new in your walk with Jesus, there is someone behind you - who will that person be? Today, our challenge to you is this: find someone to mentor and find someone to mentor you. This accountability will help you follow a good example and set an excellent example for someone else.
