Celebrating Your Baptism

DAY 28 OF 30

Today, we start (and end) 2 John. This letter is an incredible warning to the church not to listen to false teachers who deny Jesus. John heard the warning about neglecting Jesus firsthand. It is found in the synoptic gospels Matthew, Mark, and Luke. They are called synoptic because they contain the same stories, almost in the same sequence.

Jesus was teaching about a passage in Isaiah 28:16 and Psalm 118:22 that talks about the stone that the builders rejected becoming the cornerstone that the entire house was built on. In those days, a cornerstone was placed down in the corner on which the house would be built - a strong, durable stone.

After discussing these passages, Jesus said, “And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”

Jesus was saying that He cannot be ignored or defeated. Anyone who falls on the stone (Jesus) will not crush Him; instead, they will be broken into pieces like a clay pot. Anyone who ignores the stone (Jesus) will be destroyed when it is placed into its spot like a person would be if the cornerstone was laid down for a house and a man ignored it.

John was writing to the early church to encourage them to stay strong and not lose hope or drive. The world will try to crush Jesus and will be unsuccessful. The world will try to ignore Him, and they will be unable to do this.

Don’t let the world dissuade or discourage you from following Jesus as you continue in your faith. Instead, allow Him to continue to be the cornerstone on which the kingdom of God is built in your life.

We should reaffirm our commitment to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior daily. Have you done that today? Take a moment to pray and tell the Lord He is still your Lord and Savior.
