Through the Bible: Jeremiah

DAY 7 OF 19

Clay In God’s Hands

Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.
Jeremiah 18:6 (ESV)

Through the book of Jeremiah, we learn truth with a new perspective on God – that God is the Master Potter who can mold and re-form our lives, and that the authority and power to break or make kingdoms and nations, is His. In these chapters again and again Jeremiah’s warnings and calls to the people for repentance to return to covenant relationship with God had been ignored.

Just as the Potter turned the imperfect vessel back into a lump of clay and began again to mold a usable vessel, so God will do with Israel. What seems to be a destructive process, however in God’s hands, He will create a new and faithful people out of the remnant of the rebellious and sinful people.

Likewise, we are the clay. God knows how to squeeze and nudge, to shape us inwardly, to spiritually mold us as we respond to His hands, into vessels fit for His use, a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work (2 Tim 2:21).

Prayer

Abba Father, give us grace whenever we are placed in the kiln where the fires of life turn us into more durable vessels. Seal us with Your love, joy, and peace, worthy to reveal Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
