DAY 12 OF 19

Obedience

The command that Jonadab the son of Rechab gave to his sons, to drink no wine, has been kept, and they drink none to this day, for they have obeyed their father's command. I have spoken to you persistently, but you have not listened to me.
Jeremiah 35:14 (ESV)

In Chapter 35, Jeremiah uses a group of nomadic people called the Rechabites as an example of obedience to show the people of Judah. The Rechabites obeyed and did what their forefathers told them. They were also taught not to drink wine. When Jeremiah offered it to them, they refused it (Jeremiah 35:5-10).

God wanted the Jews to be obedient to Him as the Rechabites were to their forefathers. Although the Rechabites were not among God’s chosen people, God commended them for their obedience.

Even today, we can find people (the Rechabites) who do not know Jesus keeping their own moral standards more consistently compared to some Christian keeping God’s standards or commands.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son and through Him, we have salvation. As we walk with You, we pray for the Holy Spirit to help us in keeping Your standards and commands consistently. Let it not be said that the Rechabites of today are more obedient than we are. In Jesus' name, Amen.
