Through the Bible: Jeremiah

DAY 9 OF 19

The Message of The Cross

This is what the Lord says: Stand in the courtyard of the Lord’s house and speak to all the people of the towns of Judah who come to worship in the house of the Lord. Tell them everything I command you; do not omit a word. Perhaps they will listen and each will turn from their evil ways. Then I will relent and not inflict on them the disaster I was planning because of the evil they have done.”
Jeremiah 26:2-3 (NIV)

God told the prophet Jeremiah to speak to the people of Israel about their sins and warned them that if they did not repent, judgment would come upon them. The consequences of sin are pain and suffering and it was not what God wanted to see happen to His people. The warning of the prophets brought about some behavior modification but it lacked the power for life transformation.

God sent His Son to finish what the prophets could not do. Jesus came to die on the cross to break the power of sin. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation and the old sinful self was crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our life. The message of the Cross is that Jesus has died for our sins and we now have the power to stop sinning.

Prayer

Dear Father God, we thank You for Your relentless love for us that You sent Your only Son to die for us and set us free from the power of sin and death. Dear Lord Jesus, we thank You that You so willingly went to the Cross and died for us, and we pray for the help of the Holy Spirit that we have a willing and joyful heart to live for you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Jeremiah

Jeremiah, the author of this book, was born in approximately 650 BC. He was called by God to prophesy to the southern kingdom of Judah of the imminent judgement due to their disobedience to God. Often mocked and beaten for his prophecies, Jeremiah remained faithful to his calling. Though Judah was given forty years to repent, the people continued in sin and were eventually exiled to Babylon in 586 BC.
