PREFACE

As we begin this 21-day journey, we invite you to meditate on the theme Commissioned, inspired by the life of Joshua. To be commissioned is to be entrusted with a significant mission by someone in authority. God commissioned Joshua to lead His people into the Promised Land, equipping him for every battle and challenge.

In the same way, every one of us is commissioned and called to advance God’s purposes wherever He has placed us. Let these reflections encourage you to step forward in courage and obedience, knowing that God equips, strengthens, and goes before you.

DAY 1: GOD OF THE COMMISSION

Key Verse: This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. - Joshua 1:9

We’ve all heard stories of people laying down their lives for a noble cause or a good ruler. There’s something powerful about being called to serve a purpose higher than ourselves but imagine being called by God Himself. That’s the kind of commission Joshua and the Israelites received, and it’s the same God who commissions us today.

We are truly blessed and privileged. If we were selected by the ruler or president of a nation for an assignment, that in itself would be a high honour. Here, it is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords who has chosen and commissioned us.

Joshua was carrying out a mission with divine authority and backing. He was promised that God’s very presence would go with him. Convinced of that, he could move forward with confidence, knowing that the God who commissioned him was also the God who would go with him and before him.

Today we, too, are commissioned by God to change our world. Whether it's leading in our communities, nurturing our families, or showing love to our neighbours or colleagues, God invites us to participate in His work and to fulfil His mission. With His authority backing us, we can walk forward boldly, assured of success.

As you begin this season of prayer and fasting, ask God to show you the areas He has commissioned you to fulfil His purpose. The God who commissioned Joshua commissions you today and promises to be with you every step of the way.
