The Bible OverBrew - Bible in a Yearഉദാഹരണം
Week 32. Day 2. Job 9-18.
This continues in the central section of speeches (see yesterday’s notes). Again, don’t get lost in the detail, just try to get an overview of
- what the friends are saying (about Job and about God)
- what Job is saying (about himself and about his friends)
One additional point that Job makes in this section is the desire to have some kind of audience with God, maybe even a legal trial, to protest his innocence:
‘How can mere mortals prove their innocence before God?
Though they wished to dispute with him,
they could not answer him one time out of a thousand.’ (Job 9:2-3)
Job laments that he cannot have this trial before God, and that he has no advocate to help him:
‘He [God] is not a mere mortal like me that I might answer him,
that we might confront each other in court.
If only there were someone to mediate between us,
someone to bring us together.’ (Job 9:32-33)
Job is looking for someone to be on his side, unlike his friends who he describes as ‘miserable comforters’ (16:1).
NOTE: Days 1-5 of each week contain the scripture reading for that week. Day 6 has just the 'key chapters'. If you want a briefer version of this plan that still takes you through the whole Bible, you could just read the key chapters featured on day 6. Day 7 has the podcast video where we discuss the week's reading.

The Bible OverBrew is a friendly virtual book group, helping you read the Bible in big chunks, preferably with a mug of tea! Maybe you've tried to read through the Bible before, but gave up when it felt confusing or too intense? We are here to help you! We provide notes and questions to guide your reading, and note ‘key chapters’ if you don’t have time to read it all. In our podcast at the end of each week we draw out the key themes, and how it all points to Christ. We’d love you to join us!
