Day Two – The Paradigm of Sex

The historical account of Ruth and Boaz illustrates an additional paradigm of sex.

“So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. And he went in to her, and the Lord gave her conception, and she bore a son” (Ruth 4:13).

Like the story of Adam and Eve, there was more than a casual relationship between Boaz and Ruth. Scripture reveals Boaz taking Ruth as his wife before they engaged in sex. And who but God could bless them with a lineage extending to the great King David?

Sex outside of a marital union between a husband and his wife is sin. Scripture provides abundant evidence of this. I will share three passages here:

“In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself” (Ephesians 5:28).

“But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband” (1 Corinthians 7:2).

He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate” (Matthew 19:4-6).

What God previously ordained from the beginning is confirmed by Jesus in the verse above. God, our Savior, and His Word are never out of alignment. Jesus establishes in John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.”

Please find a quiet place to pray: Thank you, Heavenly Father, for revealing the truth in your Word. I yearn to live a righteous life that honors you. Thank you for giving me the strength to turn away from people and circumstances that fall out of alignment with Your Word. In a world that encourages me to sin, every day, please give me clarity to see through this deception. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
