Days of Prayer to Discover Your Identity in Godಮಾದರಿ
He Calls You “Friend”
What an honor it is to be called the friend of Jesus, the Son of God! Jesus gave us an eternal identity when He chose us, called us His friends, and appointed us to go out and do the work of His kingdom on earth. Praise God that when Jesus spoke these encouraging words to His disciples, He was also including you and me and all future believers in Jesus. Today, He is calling each of us to join Him in love and in friendship.
Jesus gave us four exciting promises in John 15:14–16:
1. We are His friends. Jesus has offered the hand of friendship to us! We are no longer merely His servants, even though we still obey His commandments because we love Him. But we are closer to our Savior because He desires an intimate bond of fellowship and love with us.
2. He has made known to us everything He learned from almighty God, His Father, and ours. A true friend shares his or her life and deep things of the heart with their closest friends. Jesus desires to share the heart of the Father with us, which includes God’s loving purpose and plans for us in His kingdom.
3. We did not choose Him, He chose us! What awesome proof of Christ’s love for us. He wanted us to be His close friends. Then He appointed us to go forth and bear fruit for His kingdom, fruit that won’t perish or decay, fruit that will remain. Our appointment by the Son of almighty God is never in question in heaven. That’s why this Scripture today is so important for us to understand and live by. Doesn’t this honor from Jesus make you want to lift your voice and praise Him?
4. We can ask God the Father anything in Jesus’s name and He will give it to us. As a friend of Jesus, we are the recipients of the blessings and answered prayer that God has promised His people throughout the Old and New Testaments. This is no name it and claim it theology but simply the promises from God’s Word that He hears us and answers our prayers when we go humbly into His presence in the name of Jesus.
Let’s go to God in prayer today, thanking Jesus for His love and friendship and asking Him to strengthen our desire to abide in Him.
