Days of Prayer to Discover Your Identity in Godಮಾದರಿ
The Gift of the Holy Spirit
Before Jesus left the earth, He told the disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father, for there they would receive power from on high. Jesus said something like this, “Don’t even think about doing anything else until you go to Jerusalem and wait for what My Father has for you!” In Jerusalem, they would receive the Holy Spirit and have constant and uninterrupted fellowship with God through His Spirit every single day.
I can say, without question, that the greatest gift that God has given me, second only to my salvation in Jesus Christ, has been an intimate daily relationship with the Holy Spirit. He is our wellspring of life, the person of the Trinity that almighty God has given us to live within us on the earth.
When you surrender your heart and life to Jesus Christ and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit takes up residence within you and immediately fills your heart and your mind. Having a relationship with Him is an endless fountain of power, peace, and joy for me.
The Holy Spirit is a Person, not just a dove or a wind, although He has been depicted that way in the Bible at times. It was through the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus accomplished what He needed to do for His Father on the earth. And it is the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in Christians that gives us the power to serve God today.
Going to God and receiving answers to prayer comes through the power of the Holy Spirit. Sure, God could speak out loud, write in the clouds, or do anything He wants to do. But He doesn’t. Instead, He chooses to speak to us through His Word and through His Spirit living within us. The Holy Spirit is the One who enables us to understand God’s thoughts toward us from His Word and gives us the power to overcome the lies of the enemy in our lives. The Holy Spirit also speaks to us softly in our inner man, allowing us to cultivate a relationship with Him and to walk in His peace.
Let’s ask almighty God to make us more sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Starting today, yield yourself to the Holy Spirit so you can be led by Him.
