Days of Prayer to Discover Your Identity in God

DAY 3 OF 5

God Invites You to Come

There are so many portions of Scripture that deeply touch my soul. When God opened my eyes to what He was offering me in Isaiah 55:1–3, it was a pivotal day in my life. These verses are designed to put into perspective the greatest values in the universe that God has made available to us as His children. Today, we are going to ask Him for the wisdom to understand His invitation. Let’s look at these verses carefully.

In the first verse, God is reaching out to invite us, everyone who thirsts, to come to the waters. What water is He talking about? Do you think He is referring to normal H2O? No. God Almighty, our Creator and loving Father, is talking about a living, indwelling relationship with Him. He is giving us a personal invitation to come to Him and be refreshed at His feet, to come in answer to His invitation, to worship and praise Him, and to drink from the water of His Word. Without receiving His water, we can never be the people God desires us to be. Without a fresh infilling of the waters of His Spirit, we can’t experience the relationship with our heavenly Father that we long to have. Come, everyone, to the living water that God has for you.

Four times in Isaiah 55:1, God invites us to come; the last time, He invites us to buy and eat without spending a cent. You don’t need wealth or importance to come to a loving God. It doesn’t matter what your status is in this world; it is God’s desire for you to come and refresh yourself with all that He has for you. Most of us have to go to work to supply all the needs and wants of our families, and that’s a good thing. God isn’t implying that we should not have a passion and desire to apply the gifts and skills in the work that He has given us. I am not saying that our daily work doesn’t have great value in the sight of God. But what He is offering here is the free gift of His refreshing love to all who will come and drink.

Let’s respond to God’s invitation to come today. Let’s incline our ears to His voice. Let’s incline our spirits. Let’s ask God to give us this living, flowing water from on high.
