Days of Prayer to Discover Your Identity in God

DAY 2 OF 5

It’s All Real, Just Not True

Are you attacked by thoughts and feelings of worthlessness, depression, or fear? Do you ever wonder where all those negative thoughts and feelings come from? What if I told you, “It’s all real, it’s just not true?” What I mean is this: the overwhelming emotions you feel when you think badly about yourself are real, but the negative thoughts you are listening to just aren’t true!

Negative thoughts that we dwell on are lies from Satan. He tries to bombard us continually with thoughts of our worthlessness and our failures. Satan lied to Eve in the garden of Eden, and he is still lying to us today.

So many Christians never get over the lies that they have heard since childhood, or even hear now, lies from the devil speaking through friends, enemies, or even family members. It is easier for people to listen to what they are not—worthless, unloved—rather than listening to what they are—God’s beloved child—as described in His Word.

Christians who don’t walk in the truth of God’s love break my heart. God is pursuing each of us with His love. The problem is that some Christians don’t really grasp the spiritual transformation that happens within when they receive salvation in Jesus.

I will never forget how I was delivered from Satan’s darkness and placed in God’s marvelous light. As a young man, I was captured by Satan’s thoughts and enslaved in addiction until I was delivered by God’s light through Jesus Christ. I know that if Christians will believe the truth of God’s thoughts toward them instead of Satan’s lies, they will walk in harmony with the Holy Spirit and receive His peace and joy. God’s best will always elevate you over the enemy’s negative thoughts in your mind. You will know the joy of the Lord is your strength!

Let’s go to God together in prayer today and ask Him to help us put off the distractions of this world—hobbies, sports, social media, whatever—and to keep our eyes on Him and His truth. Let’s remember that even though Satan’s lies about you seem real, they are just not true! Let’s go before the Lord together in reverence today and pray, “Change Your people, Lord. Change me for Your sake and for Your glory.”
