How To Follow Jesus

DAY 3 OF 8

Disciples call Jesus teacher and Lord.

The word “disciple” means learner. Part of being a disciple of Jesus is learning from Him. But being a disciple is more than just learning from Jesus. Being a disciple also means Jesus is your Lord: you follow Him and live your whole life for Him.

In the Bible, there was a rich, young ruler who learned from Jesus, but he wasn’t Jesus’ disciple. He knew God’s ways and followed them His whole life. But when Jesus told the young ruler to get rid of the money and possessions that distracted him, he wouldn’t do it. Instead, he walked away sadly. Money was more important to the young ruler than Jesus was.

Jesus loves you and wants you to be His disciple! But that means nothing can be more important to you than He is. You’ve got to let go of anything that’s keeping you from learning from Him, following Him, and living your life for Him. Don’t be like the rich, young ruler! Choose to be Jesus’ disciple.

Talk It Over: What is something that’s keeping you from making Jesus your Lord? What can you do today to make sure Jesus is most important in your life?
