Overcome the Mind Ambush - 5 Steps to Find Peace in the NoiseSýnishorn
Being Honest With God
I’ve always found the story in Luke 24:13-35 fascinating. It’s the recount of two of Jesus’ disciples walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus discussing the recent events that led to the crucifixion of Jesus. Here they were processing out loud what they had seen and a stranger (Jesus in disguise) joins them.
The stranger asks them what they are so deeply discussing, and they respond by sharing ALL the details of the events that had just transpired. I often imagine the way they would have communicated what they had experienced. The emotions and the “I can’t believe this has happened.” The depths of the pain they felt and all the intricate details.
It was after they shared that Jesus responds by going back to the beginning with the story of Moses and all the prophets and He then unveils the revelation of Himself to them and in response as they receive His words, and their hearts BURN with passion.
This is revelatory! The disciples processed with Jesus and then after they had emptied out all their concerns, feelings, and thoughts, it was then that Jesus could remind them of the true story of His life, which in turn stoked fiery passion within them. It invigorated them, giving them life and hope again.
I believe it’s so important that we learn how to understand and listen to our hearts by giving our hearts room to authentically breathe and speak. As we communicate our hearts and how we are feeling with the Lord we grow in intimacy. “In to me you see,” we let the Lord see into the beauty of our unique selves and in relationship we experience, know and see more of Him.
It becomes this continual conversation, of sharing and responding and receiving with the Lord.
Let me ask you .. is there anything stopping you from sharing openly with the Lord?
Sometimes fear can hold us back in this space. Fear of what He might say. Fear that He might reject you if you are vulnerable and honest. If that’s you, may I encourage you today to pause and ask Him, “Jesus, is there anything stopping me from coming closer to you today?”
And listen. Listen to the response that comes from within. Let Him illuminate your heart and bring you into peace in that space.
As we finish our Overcome the Mind Ambush series, this is my prayer for you:
“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”
Declarations:
Jesus has given me the gift of His perfect peace. John 14:27
My reconciling “Peace” is Jesus! Ephesians 2:14
