Running With VisionIhe Atụ
Capacity
When beginning to run for the first time, or training for any run, you can’t begin at the end. Meaning, you can’t go out and run a marathon if you’ve never run a mile before. You have to start at a shorter distance and slowly work up in mileage as your body gets stronger and accustomed to the distance. If you decide to go run a marathon and don’t train, I can guarantee you’ll be quitting sooner than later. However, when training correctly, you’ll be surprised at your capacity. Something that might seem impossible at the beginning, running 26.2 miles, slowly begins to look possible as you take it step by step.
We were made with a capacity that would probably shock you. God created us with so much potential, but we have to put in the work to get there. Sometimes we look at the bigger picture, think about how fun it would be to do that big thing, and then quickly get discouraged because it doesn’t happen quickly, or we’re not disciplined enough to do the work that needs to be done to get there.
I’ve run 5 marathons in my life, and the training I do is 18 weeks long with 4 runs per week. That’s 72 runs leading up to the marathon. As you build up and get consistent, 3 miles at the end of 72 runs feels easy. Now, that was not the case at the beginning of the training, but due to consistency and work ethic, my capacity grew.
What is it that God created you to do? What’s that thing you’ve been passionate about, but think it’ll never happen? Don’t give up! God gave you a capacity to accomplish it, but you have to put the work in. It’s a two-way street. A partnership. God won’t just drop the finalized product on you. You have to do your part. He’s there to help you, but He’s not going to move your feet for you. So get going! Be consistent and work hard, and you’ll be amazed at what you’re capable of!
