Women of the Bible

DAY 3 OF 30

Hagar

Most of us have heard the story of Hagar, Abraham, and Sarah and how they jumped ahead of God in fulfilling the promise of descendants. When you’ve read their account in the past, have you ever deeply considered what it would have been like for Hagar?

When we think of Hagar, often we are drawn to her life as a servant and how that played out as she became the mother of Abraham's son. But have we looked at Hagar through the eyes of God?

When Hagar fled Sarai's presence, the Angel of the Lord found her. She called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, El Roi, You-Are-the-God-Who Sees. (Chapter 16) God came to Hagar and talked to her, letting her know He saw the fear and pain she was dealing with. Later in Genesis, The Angel of God again comes to Hagar and Ishmael (Chapter 21), letting them know that He is with them throughout the difficult times they are facing.

God is so good at letting us know He is there and cares for us. Hagar never had to walk the path on which she found herself alone. The Angel of the LORD told her the road ahead would be difficult…but she was not alone.

1. Are you facing a difficult situation in your life? How does it feel to know you are not alone?

Prayer: Lord, keep my eyes focused on You in every situation in my life.

About this Plan

Women of the Bible

Eve and Mary may be the most well-known in Scripture, but the Bible is chock-full of women with rich character, bold faith, and powerful testimonies. Join us as we briefly study 30 “Women of the Bible” and learn about the ways God used them, sustained them, emboldened them, and provided for them. Women have been a part of God’s plan from the Garden of Eden until the present day. We pray your faith is encouraged and strengthened by spending some time getting to know these women’s accounts.
