Psalms Of Praise And The Word

DAY 9 OF 10

Praise and High Praise

There’s praise and then there’s high praise. Praise is a discipline. High praise is a delight. In Psalm 145, David moves from the duty of praise into the ecstasy of high praise. He says that his heart explodes with praise. He cannot take in how utterly and indescribably great God is. He is overwhelmed with God’s goodness, his glory, and his awe-inspiring acts of power. David’s heart bubbles over as he meditates on God’s “excellent greatness” and his “marvelous beauty” (vv. 6–7, TPT). God’s love is like a river of kindness that constantly overflows its banks. In fact, God manifests himself as kindness in everything he does. See how the heart explodes in this psalm? When we are wrecked by the revelation of God’s greatness, we move from sacrificial duty to euphoric delight. We move from praise to high praise.

Draw near afresh to God. He will reveal himself to you afresh. Then let your heart bubble over in high praise and move from duty to delight.

Psalm 145:6-7 The Passion Translation

“Your awe-inspiring acts of power have everyone talking! I’m telling people everywhere about your excellent greatness! Our hearts bubble over as we celebrate the fame of your marvelous beauty, bringing bliss to our hearts. We shout with ecstatic joy over your breakthrough for us.”

About this Plan

Psalms Of Praise And The Word

The Psalms find the words that express our deepest and strongest emotions, no matter what the circumstances. These devotions, inspired by The Passion Translation Psalms: Poetry on Fire, combined with the daily readings, will turn sighing into singing and trouble into triumph. This 10–day reading plan includes the Psalms of praise and the Word spanning Psalms 107-150.
