Strength for Tomorrow

DAY 9 OF 30

Day 9: David – Strength in Facing Giants

Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:32-50
Key Verse:
“All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s.” – 1 Samuel 17:47

David was just a shepherd boy when he faced Goliath. No one in the Israelite camp believed David could win, but no one, including Saul, volunteered to fight the giant. Goliath has stoked a fire inside David that irritated him to his bones. Who was this giant that would speak so flippantly against the Lord almighty? David knew God was on his side, so his confidence wasn’t in skill but in God’s strength. He had seen God’s faithfulness before, when he fought the lion and the bear and had won, and trusted that He would be faithful again in front of this large gathering of witnesses.

We aren’t going to fight a literal giant today, but Goliath represents the battles we all face. They are the challenges that seem insurmountable, with the enemy taunting us like Goliath taunting the nation of Israel. But like David, we are not called to fight in our strength. The battle belongs to the Lord. When we trust Him, even the giants in our lives will fall.

Prayer Focus: Pray for bold faith to face the “giants” in your life, knowing that God fights for you.

About this Plan

Strength for Tomorrow

Jesus told us that our weariness comes from carrying a burden that is too heavy for us. Instead, we are supposed to give our problems, cares, and concerns to Him and allow Him to give us the strength to do what He asks. He will teach us to do this over the next 30 days because He is humble and gentle at heart. God's word will show us examples of people throughout scripture who put their burdens in His hands and found rest for their souls.
