14th Station of the Cross: Jesus Is Buried

Today we’ve come to the final station in the Fourteen Scriptural Stations of the Cross. The passion that began in the garden of Gethsemane comes to an end as Jesus is laid to rest in the garden of Joseph of Arimathea. History and archeology suggest to us that in the time of Jesus, Golgotha was an abandoned quarry used as a garbage dump. Jesus was crucified in a garbage dump but buried in a garden. When Jesus is first seen alive in that garden on Easter morning, Mary Magdalene will mistake Him for the gardener. But in fact it’s no mistake at all. Jesus is the gardener who turns garbage dumps into gardens. Yes, the garbage dumps of the world and the human soul can be turned into gardens by Jesus Christ!
