Unvarnished Jesus: A Lenten Journey

DÍA 40 DE 46

Palm Sunday, April 14

Luke 19:28–40

Jesus Makes His Triumphal Entry

Today is the first day of Holy Week — the journey from Palm Sunday to the end of Lent on Holy Saturday. On Palm Sunday we remember the Triumphal Entry. Jesus and Pontius Pilate both arrived in Jerusalem for the week of Passover. Pilate entered from the west riding a warhorse; Jesus entered from the east riding a donkey. Jesus was deliberately fulfilling the prophesy of Zechariah that said Messiah would reject the warhorse and enter Jerusalem peaceably, riding the colt of a donkey, and that Messiah would teach peace to the nations. The question for us is which parade are we marching in? The military parade of Pilate that still believes the world is to be shaped by violence, or the peace parade of Jesus?
