Unvarnished Jesus: A Lenten JourneyEjemplo

9th Station of the Cross: Jesus and the Weeping Women
Such is the compassion of Jesus that He can weep for those who weep for Him. Jesus knows the horror that will befall Jerusalem within forty years. In AD 70, the Roman general Titus ended the First Jewish War with the siege and destruction of Jerusalem, resulting in the death and enslavement of hundreds of thousands of Jewish people. Jesus tried to pull Jerusalem back from its hell-bent ways. Jesus was the green tree who taught and embodied the way of peace and love, yet He was still crucified. The sons of the weeping women of Jerusalem will be the dry wood who will foolishly advocate for the way of war. Jesus weeps for these women and their children because He knows what is in store for Jerusalem.
