The Price of Redemption
Psalm 49:7-9, 15
“No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for him – the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough - that he should live on forever and not see decay…But God will redeem my life from the grave; he will surely take me to himself.”
We celebrate successful people when they are alive, but rarely talk about their eternal destiny apart from redemption.
Will giving to charity redeem the sinful choices in our lives?
How about living ‘good lives’ or being honorable and living according to our own moral code?
The ransom for a life is costly; no payment is ever enough. Only God decides what that payment must be; only God can give life and take it away. When God sent his Son as a sinless sacrifice for our sins, he paid the costly price of redemption for us. Our response to that amazing news must be faith that it is true for us and gratitude for God’s gift of life and redemption, not just redemption, but eternity with our Creator, God himself.
As we consider our investments and our return on investments, have we considered the biggest question of all: what happens to us when we die?
God alone has the answer to that question.
Lord Jesus, thank you for redeeming my life and sacrificing all for me. I give myself to you and to your mission to live and share the good news, for your glory.
