DAY 129 OF 365

Counsel

2 Samuel 17:7, 11-12
“Hushai replied to Absalom, ‘The advice Ahithophel has given is not good this time…So I advise you: Let all Israel…as numerous as the sand on the seashore – be gathered to you, with you yourself leading them into battle. Then we will attack him wherever he may be found…’”

What was it about the advice of Hushai that appealed to Absalom?

What aspects of Absalom’s nature did Hushai’s advice exhibit or appeal to?

Hushai’s advice was to proceed carefully and wait for a large army to be assembled. It was the voice of caution that appealed to Absalom’s fear of the warrior history of his father David, as well as to his pride.

What advice or counsel are we receiving that appeals to either pride or fear in our lives?

What counsel is shaping our lives?

Absalom did not have the capacity to seek the counsel of the Lord in the most important decision of his life. He had already chosen rebellion and had become twisted by bitterness, anger, pride and fear.

What is shaping our lives this day?

Lord Jesus, counsel, lead, direct and shape my life this day, for your glory.
