Daily Encouragement

DAY 115 OF 366

God answers Job with a series of rhetorical questions which are full of power and poetic beauty. They have to do with creation, and more particularly with the presence of the Creator himself. In contemplating this particular verse we do not merely watch with bated breath as the eagle soars, but we know at whose command he does so.

One of the Lord’s chief methods in strengthening his people in the midst of their trials is to remind them that he is the Creator. To truly see and to know at whose command the eagle soars and builds his nest on high is not only to understand the mystery of creation, it is to enter into the meaning of life. The faithful Creator is the faithful God who can be trusted for all of life, including even its sharpest experience of unexplained suffering.

We are not surprised to find the apostle Peter following the same pattern when he bids those “who suffer according to God’s will” to commit themselves to “their faithful Creator” (1 Pet. 4:19). I am not surprised either that my wife, when ill with cancer some years ago, developed a keen interest in the bird-life around our home!
