Overcoming: Devotions from Time of Graceنموونە
Money and Values
One drug dealer says to another, "I know it's wrong, but the money makes it all right." You know, with a modest effort, you can justify almost any evil activity by the money and maybe also by the "good" things you will do with that money, like feeding your family or paying down your debts.
One of the great themes of literature is the ambitious man who sells his soul to the devil for short-term gain like power, longer life, or wealth. Have you ever sold out your values for something selfish and stupid? Jesus said once, "What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mark 8:36,37).
Time to take a values inventory. What are your three most precious possessions? What is the goal of your life? What does God think about how you are using his money?
