Overcoming: Devotions From Time of Grace

DAY 32 OF 35

Money and Security Ever see children play the "trust" game? One kid will stand with his eyes closed and fall backward. Before he hits the ground, several other kids will catch him. It is totally natural and understandable for people, including, ahem, you and me, to find our security in our money. If we can just amass enough of it, we can rest easy. Our wealth will "catch" us when we fall. Proverbs 18:11 says, "The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it an unscalable wall." At best that is a dangerously short-term strategy. Securities fraud, stock market collapse, theft, stupidity, natural disaster, and war can erode away anybody"s wealth, even that of kings. Your death will take it all away. Want something much more secure that you can stake your life and your soul on? St. Paul was a secure and spiritually rich man, and he would love to share the wealth with you: "The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom" (2 Timothy 4:18). What’s in your wallet?
