God Is Holy
Isaiah describes a vision of angels in heaven constantly crying out that God is “holy, holy, holy” (Isaiah 6:3). We know God is good and He is sovereign. What does it mean for Him to be holy?
God’s holy nature is pure, untainted by any hint of sin, imperfection, or evil. That is what holiness means. It is one of the many mysterious aspects of His being that make Him utterly unique. There is none other like Him.
We, His children, are called to be holy as well—to become like God in His pure and perfect nature.
“Make every effort . . . to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
How is that possible? It’s not, not without the cross of Christ that cleanses us. We have been defiled by sin. We cannot stand in God’s presence, much less conform to His character, without the means He offers us as a way to heaven: the sacrificial gift of Jesus, the Savior, the Son of God.
It's like God hitting the “delete” button on the complete list of our sins. The rest of our life becomes a process of “sanctification”—living out the holiness He has already provided.
The real God is holy and wants us to be holy—so that we can have an intimate relationship with Him. Have you committed your life to Christ yet, so that you can begin to be transformed into His likeness and walk with Him?
A clear vision of God’s holiness will change how you think, shape your attitudes, and direct your life. It will also bring you into closer fellowship with Him. Over time, your life will become a mirror of His good, sovereign and holy nature.
