HONORING THE HOLINESS OF THE LORD
The Lord set rules of worship for the Israelites in such a way that they learnt how to honour His holiness. One of the ways was by offering the sacrifice in the tabernacle and not in any other place. Offering sacrifices outside the tabernacle was an action that dishonoured God as He had set the tabernacle as the centre of the Israelites’ worship.
As the blood represents life, offering a bloody offering represents the sacrifice of life. Therefore, offering blood to anyone else other than God meant trusting this person as their saviour and sin redeemer! This was not a right attitude before the Lord.
In this time of grace, the blood of Christ is poured out for the forgiveness of our sins. The blood of Jesus is the perfect redemption sacrifice to pay for our salvation. This is the reason why we, the believers that have been redeemed, have the same responsibility in faith to honour the holiness of the Lord by giving the best of our lives to Him.
Apostle Paul wrote about this type of offering in Romans 12:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
Offering our bodies means that whatever we do must be done with the motivation to please God and to guard our lives to be holy before Him. A simple way to honour the holiness of God is by being alert in doing anything and by having no motivation to be proud.
For what is pleasing in the eyes of the Lord is seeing that we do everything for His glory.
