Power Read The Bible In 60 Days With Jeff Anderson

DAY 50 OF 60

Day 50

EVERY STORY HAS AN ENEMY

[Scheduled Reading: Luke 4-16]

Along with heaven, there’s another recurring theme we see in the gospels.

Demons.

As Jesus went about healing the sick, He cast out demons, too. Jesus had a particular affinity for helping the demon-possessed.

For much of my life, as I have read the Bible, my eyes pretty much leaped over any mention of demons - almost like they were metaphors for evil.

I don’t fully understand these beings, how they operate, and how they exist around us. But I know they’re real. (And there's some fear in that!)

In Luke 8 we have the famous story of when Jesus cast the demons into the pigs. What’s particularly fascinating about this encounter is how fearful the demons were at the sight of Jesus.

After all, they recognized Jesus. They knew exactly who Jesus was. They know who their true enemy is - Jesus! And they know the fate they will meet at His hand.

(And there's comfort in that!)

In ten short days (Day 60) you’ll be reading Revelation. Chapter 12 details the war in heaven in which Satan and his angels were once cast down to earth.

Demons are real. Dark spirits are real. Satan’s force is real. He knows his time is short (Rev 12:12), and that's the reason he wages war against your soul, and souls of your family.

Throughout the gospels and the rest of the New Testament, pay attention to references to this spiritual battle between good and evil.

This battle lies at the very core of the Bible’s narrative set out in Genesis 3:15.

The Seed from the woman is going to be harassed by the serpent for a while longer. And then one day in the future (see Revelation)…. POW!

The story’s getting close to the end, folks.
