Power Read The Bible In 60 Days With Jeff Andersonনমুনা
Day 48
A BIZARRE STORY…THAT MAKES SENSE
[Scheduled Reading: Matthew 18-28, Mark 1-3]
In the last chapter of yesterday’s read, (Matthew 17), Jesus took three friends up the mountain to show them a glimpse of his heavenly appearance.
In the first chapter in today’s read, (Matthew 18) the disciples were asking Jesus, “who will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
It’s no wonder the disciples were intrigued by heaven, right?
The mega-theme of heaven continues. Over the next several chapters, more parables explain the kingdom of heaven.
Finally comes the arrest of Jesus. Then the crucifixion. Then the resurrection.
Here it is in a nutshell:
- After 4,000 years of biblical history, our God comes to earth as The Seed.
- He’s born a baby.
- He grows up a man.
- He dies as a slaughtered lamb.
- He goes back to heaven.
At first glance, it’s a bizarre story.
I recently read this quote: “Christianity is the only major religion to have as its central event the humiliation of its God.” (Church Historyby Bruce Shelley).
But for those of us tracking the biblical narrative for 48 days, it makes perfect sense. This is just one huge benefit of our reading.
