THE LORD, OUR SHEPHERD
The Psalm has been and will continue to be a familiar Psalm for many. Just reading that Psalm gives us that comfort. Words that are used in this Psalm are words of comfort, courage and confidence. If reading the Psalm can give us so much comfort, how much more comfort shall we draw when the Shepherd is with us. Let us take a look at this reassuring Shepherd.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
He is the Lord who initiates. He is our Shepherd, He makes us, leads and restores us. He leads us in the path of righteousness. Even when we are not in a mood to do anything, the Lord takes the initiative to take us out from the pit of despair and put us into a new place that we will experience Him as our Shepherd. When we have the Shepherd, there is nothing to fear.
He is the Lord who intervenes. No matter how difficult the situation is, it may seem impossible, but the Lord intervenes. When we face challenges, we wonder where God is. The Bible tells us that even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death we will fear no evil. He is the Lord who intervenes in all situations. Nothing is impossible for God; nothing is so difficult for our Lord.
He is a Lord who instructs. He is a good Shepherd who instructs us when we go astray, when we need counsel, when we need wisdom in our decision making. He promises to instruct us and teach us in the way we should go. When he instructs us, we should not be like the mule, nor ever overtake him.
We are called to just follow the Shepherd with patience and perseverance for He knows the path of leading and He knows the time of leading.
