TRUST IN THE LORD
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
There are two persons in this relationship: the one who trusts and the one who is being trusted. We are called to trust the Lord, to know Him and to develop a personal relationship with Him. There is no specific age that is a criterion to trust the Lord. Abraham was an old man, Moses in mid-life, David as a young man and Joseph as a teen were called to trust God. We are also called to trust Him to do things His way, in His own time. Let us trust Him with our all – our anxiety, our worry, our need. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
To trust in the Lord, we need to know Him and develop a relationship with Him.
The Bible says: Do not put your trust in horses or bow or wealth, but trust in the Lord. But why should we trust the Lord? It is because of the fact that:
- The Lord is our Strength – He is our power, our wealth, our property, our armour - Habakkuk 3: 19
- The Lord is our Shield – He is our protector and our refuge – Psalm 28:7
- The Lord is our Shepherd – He is our guide, our protector and our leader – Psalm 23: 1
- The Lord is our Sustainer – He is our help, he bears us, he carries us and he brings us up – Psalm 54:4
- The Lord is our Saviour – He is our rescuer, our deliverer and our help – Luke 2:11
Therefore, we can confidently put our trust in this Lord.
Trust implies assured reliance on the character, ability, strength and truth of God. And what a mighty God we have. Nothing can remove us or separate us from the love of Christ. Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
The call is not just to trust but to trust Him wholeheartedly. The emphasis is ‘all your heart’. Our problem is not trusting Him, because we always trust Him, but our problem is in giving Him full control. We do not want to take our hands off. When we know and experience the character of God, trusting becomes easy. The second thing in trusting the Lord is submission without negotiation. He knows best; let us just give it to Him. Let us not advise Him what to do.
The single equation for REST is TRUST + SUBMISSION.
As we travel through life, whatever be the situations we are in, the struggles we face or the crossroads we stand at, let us not fix our eyes on the problem but on the God who can overcome any problem. Let us stand together on a common ground and come to Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us journey this day with the Lord.
Let us trust God totally.
Are you willing to trust Him all the way?
