Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the Psalmsናሙና
Sweet
What do love, joy and honey have in common? Let’s see if we can work it out! “Oh, how I love your law!” This section kicks off with emotion! The writer is not holding back - they are fired up about their love for God's words. The verses continue by comparing God's words to their favourite dessert - “Your words are sweeter than honey to my mouth!” If we were to choose our favourite dessert, I doubt many of us would pick honey! But to the psalmist it was comparing God's words to the best treat available. Further on, the psalmist goes even further and declares that God's ways “are the joy of my heart!” The psalmist does not leave it up to us to work out why they are so emotional about God's words - they set out to prove to us why it is better than our favourite dessert!
GO DEEP: The first two verses remind us that God's words are not idle words - they are your life! If you know them AND live them, they will be your greatest love (or dessert!).
In verses 98-100, the psalmist points out that what sets us apart from people around us is GOD'S WORDS - how does it do it?
In verses 101-105, the word ‘PATH’ is listed three times. What impact does God's words have on our paths? Are you convinced?! Is God's Word better than honey?!
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
