90 Days to Wholeness: A Porn Addiction Recovery Devotional for Womenናሙና
(contribution written by Jennifer Miller)
Boundaries are important to have in accountability. Let's take a minute to define what a boundary looks like. Boundaries are for safety; they define what should and shouldn't occur in a partnership. Being able to define your boundaries is a way of asking for safety not only in your accountability relationship, but also in every relationship.
When it comes to accountability, clear boundaries should be set on who your accountability partner is. We do not recommend having an accountability partner of the opposite sex, or (at times), even your spouse. Using a spouse as an accountability partner is difficult because your relationship is already stressed because of the sexual addiction. While our spouses can certainly help us in the recovery process, they should not be our only accountability partner. Much wisdom is needed when discerning what to communicate to your spouse, although we certainly encourage you to be honest with him about your recovery.
When it comes to sharing with your accountability partner, what are some good boundaries to have? Perhaps it’s a commitment to not over share specific details of your struggle. Sometimes that can do more harm than good. Ask God to provide you with good judgment and knowledge in creating your boundaries.
