The Devotional to End All Devotionals

DAY 4 OF 40

Look back at your notes from yesterday.

A gift from God for our good, the Bible deserves our careful attention. When you sit down with it, resist the urge to rush. Set distraction aside, focus, and give God time and opportunity to talk to you through His Holy Spirit.

If you study well, you’ll walk away with a sense of having learned something significant, something you can chew on all day long.

Let’s experiment for just a minute.

Read the first of today’s passages. Ask the God Follower questions and write down your answers.

  1. What does this passage tell me about God?

  2. What does this passage tell me about being a follower of God?

Now look at your answers. Could they be more specific?

For instance, instead of answering the second question with “I need to seek God with all my heart,” you could have been more specific and said, “I will go to church, read my Bible, and listen to lessons and sermons closely so I can learn more about God.”

Use the God Follower method again on the second passage. This time, try to be more specific, especially in your answer to the second question.

How is your second set of answers different from your first?

The more time you take and effort you give in Bible study, the more likely you’ll be to walk away with a game plan you can apply to your life immediately. You won’t have to wonder if you studied well. You’ll know.

Thank God for the ability to the course of your life using the compass of His Word.
