You can use the God Follower method of Bible study to study both individual verses and longer passages of scripture (the content of the Bible) as a whole. Let’s practice doing both. 

First, ask the God Follower questions about the first verse in the first of today’s passages only. Write your answers down. Then compare them to the suggested answers below. 

1. What does this passage tell me about God? 


2. What does this passage tell me about being a follower of God?

Suggested answers:

1. This passage tells me that God gave us the Bible and that it is good.


2. This passage tells me that I should love God’s law and think about it all day long.

Now read all the verses. Ask the God Follower questions about this passage as a whole. Write down your answers. Then compare them to the suggested answers below. 

Suggested answers:

1. God gave us the Bible to make us wise and to protect us.


2. If I love the Bible and concentrate on what it teaches, it will give me an edge over my enemies and those with power over me. It will protect me from evil and from making dumb mistakes.

Sometimes, considering a whole passage of scripture is better than studying one verse within it. 

Look back at your answers to both sets of questions. Studying one verse taught you the “what” of responding to God’s Word, but studying the whole passage taught you the “why” and “how.” Pretty cool, huh? 

Study the second of today’s passages the same way, using the God Follower method to study the first verse only, then the whole passage.
