The Anxiety Relief Scriptures DevotionalÀpẹrẹ
THE LORD IS YOUR COVER
In the U.S., we call '911' for emergency help. When we call 911, the dispatcher will send whatever emergency personnel is best for the situation – whether it be ambulance, police, or firefighters.
Just as you have confidence that 911 can help you in time of physical need, have that same confidence that Psalm 911 (for Psalm 91) can help you in time of Spiritual need!
I felt led to make this today’s focus scripture after reading a question on Facebook. A young woman posted on her profile, “Who wants to be my cover?” Not being familiar with youth slang, I concluded that she was soliciting for a date or boyfriend. When I read it, my first thought was, “Jesus is the cover you need.”
A cover is designed to conceal, to protect. In Psalm 91, many synonyms for cover are given. 'Refuge' and 'fortress' are just two of them. However, to stay protected, your job is to dwell (live) in the secret place of the Most High – that is, at the center of God’s will for your life. You listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and you obey His leading. Under the shadow of the Almighty is the safest place you can be.
The Psalmist says that He will trust in God. But, it is hard to trust someone that you don’t know. So take time to get to know God’s character through the person of Jesus Christ. One of the best places to start is the book of John in the bible. You will see Jesus’ loving heart in action and you will see His obedience to the Father modeled for you – even to the cross. You will see that He loved you so much that He gave His life for you.
And if He was willing to give His life for you, how much more will He care for you as you deal with the problems of this world?
When you recognize that the Lord is your cover, you can face life without worry and anxiety as to what might happen. You may not know the future, but you know the one who does. Past, present, and future – He’s got you covered!
