New Day, New Year, and New Beginnings - 31 Days of Fresh StartsÀpẹrẹ
His New Thing...
Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:19
Because God is always up to doing something new. Honestly. We see this continually as we review our Day 1 verse and pour over His Word.
God Almighty, the Great I Am—Who Himself is unchanging—loves to change things up, mix up the action, open new pathways, begin new avenues of creativity, and make what is not yet into what is. Well, He just seems to relish doing new stuff all the time.
This truth doesn’t mean Jesus will contradict what He has spoken, but it does mean that He invites us to live so intimately with Him that when He wants to make a left turn, we are right there with Him.
The problem is that we kind of like our ruts, our well-worn paths, and the comfort of predictability because we can control things better in our lives. Am I talking your language? Yet truly. What fun is that?
Many of us want His road through—and out of—the wilderness, but we must ask ourselves, do I trust Him enough if that road looks differently than I had anticipated? Or, what if I had hoped for a stream, but He has provided a river?
His words are a call to surrender. A call to faith when we ask Him for a new direction. In the verse prior to our opening scripture, He tells us…Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old.
That means there are times when we must do that very thing. Jesus worked one way once before, but is that what He is doing now? Probably not. So, let’s release the reins, step out in faith, and not look backward. Instead, let’s draw closer to Him, hear His voice in our quiet times, and watch as that new thing He has for us springs forth in our lives.
