Taking Back What the Enemy Stole

Spiritual warfare begins with recognizing and securing potential vulnerabilities—small openings that invite the enemy to infiltrate our lives.

For years, my wife and I opened our home to people in need. It was a season of generosity, but it required boundaries. My one rule was clear: anyone who left the house needed to close and lock all windows and doors. Protection was essential. But one evening, after a service in the park, I walked into our home and heard the sound of the rushing wind. At first, I thought it was an Acts 2 moment, where God’s Spirit would fill the room, but I soon realized it was something very different. One of our guests had left a window open, and someone had entered through it, leaving glove marks on the wall and ransacking our belongings. Drawers were open, my office turned upside down, and our borrowed car was gone.

This event became a powerful reminder that the enemy looks for vulnerabilities. Sometimes, it’s not our negligence that causes spiritual losses; it’s an outright attack by the enemy, targeting our peace, joy, or stability. But here’s a key lesson: not every battle is worth fighting. The enemy often tempts us to get involved in every conflict around us, especially with people.

Ephesians 6 warns us not to wrestle against flesh and blood, but rather against the spiritual forces that work behind the scenes. Getting entangled in the wrong battles drains our energy, leaving us vulnerable. When we focus our strength on the battles God has equipped us to fight, we can avoid wasting energy on distractions that weaken our spirit and lose sight of God’s plan.

Let's pray:

Lord, help me recognize and close any spiritual "windows" left open where the enemy may find entry. Please give me the wisdom to discern which battles are truly worth fighting and the strength to overcome the distractions that weaken my spirit. Amen.
