BREAD OF LIFE

Eat some bread while you read the Bible. (If you can’t do that now, think about today’s verses next time you have bread.)

In John, chapter 6, verse 32, Jesus talks about someone from thousands of years before: a man called Moses who was a leader of God’s people. Look at the verse from Exodus and see what name God used, when he spoke to Moses.

Now, in the verses from John, Jesus uses the same name! In verse 35, he starts by saying, “I am…” Jesus does not just happen to use these words. He knows the people listening to him will think of God when they hear “I am”.

Read the first few words of verse 35 again. What or who does Jesus say he is?

Jesus says he is the “bread of life” or “the bread that gives life”. What does he mean?

Just as bread (food) helps us to keep alive, Jesus (the bread of life) helps us to keep living with God. And verse 40 tells us that living with God is “eternal” or “for ever”! Wow!!

Pray: Tell God what you think and feel about living with him for ever.
