Put Me in Coach

“And the LORD will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. The LORD will deliver them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you" (Deuteronomy 31:4-6).

This was part of Moses’ farewell address to the people of Israel. He had just told them that he was 120 years old and no longer able to lead them and God was not permitting him to cross the Jordan River. They had followed Moses for forty years, but now he is giving them a charge to press on without him.

Lewis Cass, a former presidential candidate in the 1800s said, “People may doubt what you say, but they will believe what you do.” Anybody can talk a good game, but Moses walked the walk. Moses had modeled for Joshua and all the children of Israel what a godly man looks like and also how to be a leader.

They say actions speak louder than words. What kind of story are your actions writing? James, Jesus’ half-brother said, “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead” (James 2:17). So is your faith alive or is it dead?

Paul tells us, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). If you don’t know it yet, you are a masterpiece. Created by the Master, you are His work of art! You are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).

Pericles was a prominent and influential Greek statesman in the 3rd century BC. He is quoted as saying, “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”

If you’ve been sitting on the sideline, it’s time to get in the game. Don’t be content holding the clipboard taking notes. Most likely, your legacy will be written based upon what you did rather than what you said. Since the Lord your God goes with you, what do you have to fear? Do not be afraid to say, put me in Coach.

Prayer: Lord, I pray for strength and courage to get in the game. I don’t want to look back on my life with regrets, asking the question of myself, “if only.” You are my Coach and my Master, so I defer to You as to where You want me to play. Help me to finish strong. In Jesus name, amen.

Fear Not! Faith Devotions

Fear is a venom and toxic to your body. Faith is the antivenom to fear. Just as light crushes darkness, so faith dispels fear. According to Romans, you’ve been given faith, “God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” If you want to walk in your God-given destiny, you must cultivate it. Put your faith to work and watch it grow while your fears and anxieties dissipate.
