Enough

How can I trust that God loves me, even when I don't feel it?

Even when leaders share Scripture with us about God's love, it can be hard to believe. Maybe you grew up in a household where love had to be earned. Maybe you've even been told from time to time that you're loved, but may not have truly experienced that love through words of affirmation or spending quality time together.

If this feels familiar to you, you may feel like you have to prove your worth through your performance . . . and sometimes you may even feel like you need to earn God's love. We don't have to earn God's love — we already have it, no matter what.

Our verse today reminds us that we experience God's love through one another. We may not always feel loved by those who are closest to us, but we can experience God's love through others who follow Jesus.

If you can't feel God's love right now, look for those whose lives overflow with love. Who do you know that is gentle and patient? Who is quick to give encouragement? Who values people for who they are, not what they do?

Seek those kind of people out as friends and mentors. When it's hard to trust that God loves you, build trusting relationships with loving people.

Enough

For the next four weeks, we’ll look at how the earliest followers of Jesus created a new kind of community as God's family. Through their example, we’ll learn that there is enough when we share what we have — and if there isn’t enough, God provides. We'll also learn that our actions can speak when words aren’t enough and that God’s love is always enough.
