There's this game called Perfection where players try to get these tiny little shapes into their matching spot before the timer goes off and pops all of the pieces out. With every second that goes by, the timer hums in the background reminding you that you're racing the clock to get everything perfect. When it comes to our families, we might crave perfection and want everything to be "just right." In reality, none of our families are perfect, and our focus on perfection can make us miss what's happening right in front of us.

In today's reading, we hear about God's love for all of us and how it changes the way we approach our relationships. Instead of focusing on perfection, God invites us to focus on love. We get to make love the center of the way we interact with our families and friends. We can receive and offer love to others even if we're not perfect.

Love is more than just a feeling — it's an action, too. By focusing on loving our families well, we release the pressure of perfection. Instead, we become focused on how to show Jesus to others through our actions and our families can grow stronger and closer together. When we highlight love in our families, we look out for each other and encourage one another. We can draw from God's infinite love for us and show it to our families as often as we can. In God's family, we recognize how God's love is always enough.

Enough

For the next four weeks, we’ll look at how the earliest followers of Jesus created a new kind of community as God's family. Through their example, we’ll learn that there is enough when we share what we have — and if there isn’t enough, God provides. We'll also learn that our actions can speak when words aren’t enough and that God’s love is always enough.
