It's All About Love?!

Loving God vs. loving Jesus

Jesus said to them, ‘If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but He sent me.’”(John 8:42)

Yesterday, I mentioned “loving God” and “loving Jesus” as basically the same thing. This may require a bit of explanation. For can’t we love God without believing in Jesus Christ? Are these two really so closely connected? Can’t people in other religions love God?

Jesus Himself gives us the answer to these questions by explaining that He is sent by God the Father. In John 10:30, He adds, “I and the Father are one.” You can’t believe in God while rejecting Jesus. You can’t love God the Father while ignoring His only Son. Jesus Christ is “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being” (Hebrews 1:3). He is God. You can’t separate the two. No one comes to God except through Jesus (John 14:6).

If you want to love God but not Jesus, you may just be loving your own idea or image of God, not God and how He has revealed Himself to humanity. Then you worship a god of your own making!

Does your image of God and your image of Jesus fit together? Does “loving God” and “loving Jesus” mean the same thing to you?
