Salt And Light

Lamps were vital for every household in Jesus’ time. They filled homes with light, banishing and overcoming darkness. We as Christians have a similar function in the world.

Imagine a world with no light. Think of as many ways as you can in which your life would be different.

Such a world would be unsafe. We wouldn’t be able to see others, or perform most tasks, it would be difficult to find our way around. A world without light would be terrifying. As darkness is often a cover for evil and danger.

According to Jesus, there is little use in being a secret disciple. He referred to himself as the light of the world—a light that darkness could never put out.

Jesus is the light of the world and we point the way to Him through our witness in word and deed. If we fail to help others discover Him then the world remains in darkness and cannot thrive.

You can add light to darkness, but never darkness to light. We must brighten the way with grace, love, and compassion.
